This Ferrari 212 Barchetta re-creation is based on the chassis and running gear of a left-hand-drive 1965 330 GT 2+2 Series I donor car. The reproduction alloy bodywork was constructed in the 2000s, and it is finished in red and mounted over a tubular steel frame. It spent time in the collections of Gene Ponder and Formula 3 race car driver Peter Kirill and then spent time with Florida-based marque specialist Greg Jones, who rebuilt the 4.0-liter Colombo V12 in 2021. The car was listed on BaT in April 2022. Equipment includes a four-speed manual gearbox with overdrive, four-wheel disc brakes, 16″ Borrani wire wheels, Marchal headlights and inset driving lamps, a vented hood, dual windscreens, and twin exhaust outlets. The cockpit was outfitted with replacement tan leather-trimmed aluminum bucket seats in 2023, and the transmission tunnel was reupholstered in black leather. The 212 platform was introduced by Ferrari in 1950 as an evolution of the grand touring platform that included the 166 and 195. Like its predecessors, the 212 was available in both road-going, or Inter, and racing forms. Of the 27 Export racing examples produced before production ended 1952, approximately eight featured Superleggera barchetta bodywork by Carrozzeria Touring based on the 166 MM of 1948.
The alloy bodywork on this car is finished in red and features Marchal headlights and inset driving lamps as well as a vented hood, dual windscreens, and twin dual exhaust outlets with chrome finishers. Touring Superleggera badges are affixed to the front fenders and to the trunk lid. Leather hood straps and polished buckles that were present on the car in 2022 have been removed. A tan tonneau cover is included in the sale and can be seen in the gallery below.
The car was reportedly built using 330 GT 2+2 chassis #6513, and it rides on 16″ Borrani wire wheels wearing Michelin radial tires showing 2019 date codes. A spare wheel and tire are mounted in the trunk. Braking is handled by four-wheel discs, and the brake boosters were rebuilt in 2021.
The cabin features aluminum bucket seats that were installed along with replacement tracks in 2023. They are upholstered in tan leather, while the transmission tunnel was retrimmed under current ownership. Tan leather with brown accent stitching surrounds the cabin, and equipment includes door pockets, lap belts, a dash-mounted rear-view mirror, and polished boot anchors.
The wood-rimmed steering wheel features a prancing horse horn button, and Veglia instrumentation includes a tachometer, a speedometer, and gauges for oil temperature, oil pressure, coolant temperature, and fuel level. The five-digit odometer shows 250 miles, approximately 40 of which were added under current ownership. The New Jersey title lists 351 actual miles, and total mileage is unknown.

@GranturaMKI, wonderful work indeed! While enthusiastically looking over the photos of the profile pics in particular, the front end portion, that which starts at the tires forward facing edge is ~5" longer than on a 212. Was this due to the fact that a 330 chassis was used?

As a vintage Ferrari mechanic, to see this level of detail on a car from this era is amazing. If you look at the pictures of the underbody you can see every important drain plug and nut has safety wire on them. That's next level attention to detail and something you're only going to get from a legend like Greg Jones. Congrats to whoever walks away with this beauty!

Absolutely gorgeous recreation however we're I involved in the build and assessing the interior I would have said "we need to shift the steering wheel forward 2-3 inches". The driver in the video looks kind of uncomfortable.

Had a chance to really look over and discuss with Manny Del Arroz at the Palo Alto Concourse many years ago his displayed gorgeous 166. He left the patina of the car and it showed. I was able to see the Cavallino impressions on each bolt on the motor and the hammer marks left by metal shaping artisans on the insides of both the trunk and hood. I hope that car will never be restored, it would be a crime. At the end of the show he jumped in and drove home. What a sight! This is the only Ferrari I would own if...

Wow, this is the very best way to enjoy driving this legend (a perfect replica) and man this is spot on. I've 2, the coupe and barchetta, albeit in 1/24 scale but MFH kits which are beautiful, started on the coupe but I digress. At any rate some one will walk away, rather drive away with this and I'm in envy. One day I tell ya, one day but still will enjoy this auction. A warm congrats in advance to the winning bid and please, blast some Rush/Red Barchetta while driving her.

Many years ago there was an original that would show up to the Lime Rock Vintage Festival. It would be parked casually in the paddock with nothing to keep anyone away from it. I miss those days.

I built this car many years ago. The body is alloy and was done by Dominic S.
We commissioned two body’s if I remember correctly. Bill Taylor did the first, but it not as nice as this one.

While I was never a Rush fan I always respected them so I googled Red Barchetta and have to say I quite like hearing them occasionally. Ironically they played here in Toronto 2 nights ago to kick off a big tour to rave reviews.
So the builder of this beauty and also Rush are masters at re-creating the past.

Because I had spent many hours studying, and was totally enamored by, a local original, I sat on a bench at the Ponder auction and studied this car carefully. Yes the proportions are just not right. No nobody there cared. It is gorgeous. Great presence.

MichaelMotorCar......thanks for the drive-around vid. By the looks of how you had to handle the large steering wheel it appears this car is a perfect candidate for elect aided speed sensitive steering and a 1"-2" smaller steering wheel......probably a period looking Nardi. Wish I was closer to come take a look at it.

At least the proportions are better than the 212 Ford bought for The Deuce. That one’s on the Europa chassis, which was a 2+2, so there’s a big space behind the passenger compartment, giving it a long tail. The write-up on the plaque at the Petersen points out the proportions as one of the design cues that made it into the Thunderbird, but that’s a long nose - short tail car not long - long. I guess they figured Ford thought Americans would go for a bigger car. They also like big engines, so it has the 2.7 liter, three- carb V12. Also maybe the only LHD 212. The whitewall tires may have been suggested by The Deuce’s brother William Clay Ford’s wife, a descendant of Harvey Firestone.

166 and 212 Barchettas both have the same proportions, with an extremely short front overhang.
I don't think the result of this car is a result of insufficient skill or tools (e.g. sweeps) - the craftsmanship and surfacing look outstanding. Rather, it's a result of the proportions of the chassis used. You'd have to move the engine back 4-6" so that you can get the cooling package back the same amount and shorten the nose.

@tripleblack That FerrariChat forum says its not the right proportions for a 166, not for a 212. Looks spot on for a 212 and it makes sense considering the body was built by the guy who made the original 212 bodies. That's why you can't trust these loons on FerrariChat.

A lot of effort went into lovingly recreating many details, but unfortunately the proportions are all wrong owing to using a chassis with the engine much farther out front than the real thing.

The underneath and drivetrain is all out of a 330 GT. This car looks absolutely incredible and runs amazing. This car has been restored and it’s absolutely incredible in Condition inside and out.
